The Free Gift of Salvation
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
The saints at the Grace Life Bible Church are pleased to inform you of God’s free gift of salvation. The above verse is very simple, yet extremely clear about how God is saving mankind today. Salvation according to Ephesians 2:8-9 “is the gift of God: Not of works, least any man should boast.” Is payment required for a gift? No, the nature of a gift is that it is free to the recipient; all they have to do is accept the gift. Salvation works the same way. God through His word is offering salvation to all men everywhere as a free gift of His grace. According to Ephesians 2:8-9 the only thing someone needs to do is, by faith, accept the gift that God is offering. Problems come because men feel they can earn their own salvation by their own good works. Being good, going to church, helping the poor, baptism, communion, or any other religious activity are often confused as works worthy of salvation. The fact of the matter is that God will not accept our works for salvation because we are sinners separated from the life of God.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23
You see the Bible says that we are all sinners who come short of God’s glory. In this condition even our best efforts can never bring us salvation. That is why a sinner must accept the free gift of salvation that has been provided by Jesus Christ.
“But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly his faith is counted for righteousness.” Romans 4:5
“Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:24
The careful reader will notice that this free gift of salvation is through Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ the eternal Son of God gave his life to pay the price for human sin. “For the wages of sin is death . . . “, Christ has paid the wage that sin requires so that mankind could be redeemed. It is only through faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ that a man can be saved.
“In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:14
“Whom God hath sent forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God.” Romans 3:25
“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.” I Corinthians 15:3-4
Jesus Christ shed his blood on the cross in order to pay the price for your sin. Salvation today is received when a lost sinner places exclusive faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross. Remember that salvation is a free gift that cannot be earned through human or religious good works. The gospel today is really quite simple. God loves you and Christ died for your sins, and it is through faith in what Christ has already done, that mankind can be saved from eternal damnation and separation from God.
